    Does your accordion have a low E Bass? I own an Atlantic IV N and it has a low E bass

    • @JerryPH
      @JerryPH 19 днів тому

      Not that it really makes a big difference to me, but I believe the lowest bass note is a "D". It also has hand made reeds with 22 individual and unique right hand registrations. It's a very unique accordion with great sound and versatility. I enjoy it a lot for many different genres of music. The Atlantic, Atlantic Musette and Atlantic Deluxe are all nice sounding accordions, I've played them many times! Thanks for posting! :)

      Thank-you fir posting! the 80's was indeed a good time for accordions, the push for electronic sounds was the start of what we see today. Yamaha nade some great sound modules and I still even have a Yamaha FB-01. I aksi have a couple of the older accordions with "vintage" electronic sounds and they still work well today, though sadly I can see a time when they will just stop working.

    Jerry, thank you for this demonstration. Very clear to follow. I noticed on the xd4, you did not have a receiving channel for the accordion bass. I recently purchased a Roland 4x. I use a Ketron xd3. I do not know how to set the channels so that it operates correctly. The dealer knows even less. I explained to dealer that I solely work off of the the Ketron with registrations. All I need is for the appropriate channels to communicate. Dealer has pressed so many internal parameters randomly, I think that may be part of the problem. I will of course attempt to modify the channels and hopefully they will correspond. Any suggestions?

    • @JerryPH
      @JerryPH 4 місяці тому

      Hi, thanks for posting! Realistically it is not possible to answer such a question completely for the simple reason that I do not know HOW you want to use your 4X with your arranger, but if all you want to do is use the arranger to follow your chord changes, set the arranger chords to listen (receive) on channel 3. For other functionality, you can refer to the appropriate free PDF manual from Roland on the 4X and see what channels to use. I hope that helps.

    Hi Jerry, watching this video led me to your other sites. Very interesting stories about your youth and accordion playing. Watched many videos. You play very nice! I have been using the Limex system in my accordion until it malfunctioned recently. No rep in business apparently in the USA. Unfortunately John’s accordion service in CA is no longer operating either. I am considering a Roland 8x. Had the 3x and did not like it at all, so sold it. Too bad choices are dwindling here in America. Thanks for your channel!

    • @JerryPH
      @JerryPH 5 місяців тому

      Hi and thanks for taking the time to post, I appreciate it! Yes, I am rather disappointed in the Limex product from the sense that they have an incredible product, but not interested in supporting the North American market since the closing ofJohn's accordion service a few years ago. I have a Beltuna Leader V that I would like to have the Limex MIDI acoustic setup modified a little, but there is just no one around here to help me with this. Before purchasing the 8X, I would see if you can find one locally, either through an accordion club or at a friendly location that would let you try it. I love my 8X, but it's not for everyone... the keyboard is very deep and slow, there are limited places to get service from and they are complex as hell... but I would not sell mine for anything, it is just that much fun! Thanks for dropping by!

    • @JerryPH
      @JerryPH 7 місяців тому

      Hi there, thanks for posting... unfortunately no this is nothing related to MIDI, but DATA transfer from the V-accordion to the Roland EDITOR application. That said what you are looking to do on an 8X is simply connect a MIDI cable to an adapter that goes from MIDI to USB and connect that to your computer and capture that data using a music application, for example, REAPER.

    Finally getting around to hooking up the Bugari. Do I understand the instructions, I am not hooking up the in midi on the accordion to the out midi on the BK7M? Only the out midi on the accordion to the in midi on the BK. I don't have a mixer. Then connect the BK to the Amp. Thanks.

    • @JerryPH
      @JerryPH 8 місяців тому

      Hi thanks for posting. First, you need *2* WIDI master kits. The in and out go in to both the ins and outs on the EVO and the BK. The reason for that is that the wire from the MIDI IN powers the MIDI OUT side, so you need BOTH, same rule for the EVO. After that, turn on the BK, wait a few seconds, then turn on the 8X and watch the BK connect as the MIDI connection is made.

    Wish Widi would make a rechargeable Bluetooth midi. I know they make one you can power from usb, for us fr3x or less Roland users but I have enough to lug about, and as I am already using a usb battery to power the accordion it would be nice if they made a rechargeable transmitter. You could use a m to f midi breakout cable with an l shaped male jack and Velcro the female jack to the accordion body so your midi transmitter do t stick out as far. I use an iPhone as a sound module, using a Korg plug key as the midi interface. It also sends the audio back out from the iPhone and throw /4 inch jacks to my amp.

    • @JerryPH
      @JerryPH 9 місяців тому

      I think that the reason they do it that way is that the vast majority of users have a MIDI in-out jacks. The FR-4x and lower don’t, so hence the need for external power. That said, an enterprising person could likely build something that couple place the WIDI inside the accordion and also power it using the internal power… but that’s a bit beyond me. :)

    • @kentaccordionist
      @kentaccordionist 9 місяців тому

      @@JerryPH now according to the people who make Widi the fr-4x will put out power when in normal midi out mode. I have a zivic puc+ that powers on 2 aa batteried but 1 its bulky and 2 it seems to have stopped working since i last uded it. I need to get one of the usb powered widi jacks or whwtever they are called anyway for my ewi usb, i wold hwve just not to hwve tge extra weught. Although i could always attach the bsttery ypto my belt.

    • @JerryPH
      @JerryPH 9 місяців тому

      Right, but the 4x has only 1 MIDI jack, so it is in OR out so functionality is cut a bit because the power is turned on when you use the MIDI in, the direction that is the least used generally speaking. As for the battery, depends on how long you need it to last. External batteries will last a lot longer, especially of you gig a lot, a small $5 Walmart external battery will last 2-3 full days powering WIDI adapter.

    • @kentaccordionist
      @kentaccordionist 9 місяців тому

      @@JerryPH thanks Jerry. So if I have this right,what your saying is that when the midi is switched to out on the 4x it does not output any power from the eon connector, but when it is switched to in, it outputs power. That’s very strange as it’s normally the reverse on midi equipment with the out sending the power. While on the subject of power do you know anything about the Roland cube street ex. I wanted to power mine from an external power pack, but I can’t for the life of me find the right connector to make up a lead. I emailed Roland customer support years ago to see if they would sell m a connector but they never replied. My old cube street has a normal input jack and I can power that fine. At the moment I have a couple of battery casings for the ex that I can swap at will, but I would much prefer to use a power pack. I might need up butchering my mains power supply for the jack, as I only power on batteries, if I’m playing indoors I usually use a separate PA system.

    I have a question. I now have a Bugari-Evo. Do you think this setup will work for it, since it does have the FR-8x engine? Although it seems to be somewhat modified.

      Hi there, thanks for posting! I'm pretty sure that the EVO could be made to work with the BK-7m, as they are very close. I would first try the V-accordion setting exactly as above, and then if it doesn't work, I would research what channels the EVO uses and just match them up in the BK-7m and save that settings. The BK should be flexible enough to accommodate any possible differences.

    Hello, Jerry. This is Emile from Belgium. I do have a serious problem with my Fr-8XB at the moment. I changed the battery recently but when I try to switch it on disconnected, nothing happens unless I first put it on the AC. Afterwards I can disconnect without any problem and play for several hours on the battery only. I guess you know many people and many accordionists. Maybe one of them has experienced the same problem and has been able to solve it? If this is the case, please let me know. Have a nice day.

      Hi Emile, thanks for reaching out. It is very hard to troubleshoot such an issue over the internet, but I have a few suggestions: - Please make sure you have a good battery. Sometimes even new batteries have issues. - You can try to do a backup of your setup and then do a factory reset and restore your settings to see if that helps - you may ultimately need to reach out to a Roland authorized repair center if nothing else is working. Good luck!

      Hello Jerry. Thanks again for your help and concern about my problem. The battery is brand new and I loaded it carefully according to the manual instructions. I measured the tension from the adapter=> says 24V, which is correct. Tension from the battery reads 25.2V, which is correct, too. I first try that factory reset. I must say i'm a bit scared at the result and the perspect of losing everything, even though I've made all the necessary backups, but you never can tell. Electronics is such a mysterious science sometimes. If I don't get the expected result, I'll eventually get in touch with a Roland authorized repair center. Thanks again for all.

      Hi Jerry. This is Emile again. I did what you said, i.e. I did a full factory reset and restored my settings. Surprisingly enough, when I turned on the accordion on the battery it started!!! But after a first reload, I got the same problem as before. Could not start the accordion on the battery. I had first to connect it to an AC plug. It's like having a brand new car but still having to carry the crank around, just to start it. It drives me crazy. Hope a Roland authorrized repair center will be able to solve the problem.

    Great! thanks for sharing. A question:, the rhythm you put in USB port?

      Hi, thanks for commenting! I used the Roland BK-7m for the rhythms.

      Actually if you are in the V-Accordion groups or Roland groups they still come up for sale fairly often. Not manufactured anymore does not mean not available! I found mine just by chance locally in a box for Sony Bluetooth stereo in a 2nd-hand store for quite a good price!

      @@JerryPH any more question. . Because the FR 8X has a USB port you can put a back accompaniment, in this case, it would be unnecessary the BK-7m. What do you think about this?

    • @JerryPH
      @JerryPH 10 місяців тому

      Hi... to answer the question, I have to explain the reason for the USB port. The USB port of the accordion sends NO SOUNDS, but sends the MIDI control to define each chord. The USB sends the signal to the USB input on the BK-7x and the sound exits the BK-7m via it's analog sound outputs. Since there is no analog sound input on the 8X, the answer to your question is no, this is not possible. That said, a FR-4x does have an audio input, so if that is what you need, that is the model to go for.

    This is played very beautiful. But i don't understand why you don't play it on a Keyboard. An accordion has got everything music needs, without automatic playback, that is the sense of the stradella bass system.

      Hi there, I don't understand the question... I *was* playing the accordion completely on both left and right hands. Were you commenting on the backing track (rhythm) that I added? Thanks so much for taking the time to post, you are appreciated!

      @@JerryPH Sorry, but it sounds like keyboard automatic music. I love the pure accordion sound, or played together in a band.
